“Timoi”
I am a multi-media artist that originally hails from Guatemala and embraces Los Angeles as my own. My female empowering art often features female characters, led by Calo, who may seem sweet and innocent, yet are ready to fight for what they believe in. The social and political work I do includes: A.) Being the Artist-in-Residence at Room 13 Foshay, L.A. a student run, and financed, self sustainable, multi-media art studio; B.) Serving as President of MIA (Mujeres Iniciando en las Americas), which is a non-profit organization that builds bridges of understanding and using a restorative justice framework in Guatemala and the United States to eradicate violence against women; C.) Being an artist-in-residence, at the new Downtown Los Angeles Youth and Culture Center (DTLAYCC).
The goal of my work is to impact the viewer; make them think about the paradox of delicacy, and strength of women and the feminine spirit. By sharing my work with the world I hope to bring color and inspiration for people globally, and change the situation in Guatemala. For me the personal and political facets drive my art and creative processes.
Not identifying myself with any one "type”, I explore the world that exists within. Painting is my place of nirvana. My fusing of colors, culture, and attention to detail make my artwork abstract, surreal, animated, and transmutational.
